How to get the most out of your Gael Force pen: A Q&A with Kyle Jones, Pen Production Manager

In his eleven years at Gael Force, Kyle Jones has contributed to many pen builds, witnessing significant evolutions in our technology and production quality. Throughout this evolution, we have remained firmly committed to building robust, reliable pens capable of withstanding the challenges of demanding marine environments.

Having supported customers with repairs and maintenance for over a decade, read on to learn about Kyle’s key advice for those looking to get the most out of their pens.

Having built many pens over the years, what changes have you seen in that time?

“The most significant changes would be the design and testing of new products, how we use the Bead Diagnostic Instrument (BDI) unit as part of our stringent SeaQureWeld process to independently test and verify welds, continuously improving robustness of the pens.”

You have supported customers many times with repairs and maintenance. What advice would you give users on how to best look after their pens?

“The best advice I would give is that although the pens are made from strong HDPE, if not handled with care or lifted in the correct places, something will give.”

“The same goes when tying big boats off in bad weather, don’t overload the pens. When lifting sinker tubes, lift in increments rather than in a single lift. Most damaged sinker tubes we repair are caused by lifting from one lifting point vigorously.”

When harsh weather hits, what aspects of the Gael Force pens give customers confidence?

“These pens are built to last and to the best independent welding standards. All of the buttwelds are checked with the BDI unit.”
“It gives the welder and the customer great peace of mind that the welds have been carried out by a trained professional and checked with the best technology.”

“We can pinpoint when the weld was completed, by what personnel, what machine we used, and what welding standard they have been welded to.”

“In general, I would say the design, the welding standards we weld to, and the overall robustness of the pens should be enough to give the customer peace of mind that they have quality pens when the weather hits.”
